Logistics and transport

During the Musket Wars the various tribal armies often ranged across great distances. They set out with supplies of sweet potatoes, imported potatoes and dried fish, some being carried by women and children who accompanied them. However, these would not have lasted more than a week or two, so the pace of any expedition was dictated by the need to forage. During the wars with the pakeha supply was less of an issue because warriors operated closer to their home areas, for shorter periods at a time, and stockpiled supplies in pas before an action.
